What To Expect

Understanding what to expect during your abortion procedure is an essential part of making informed decisions about your reproductive healthcare. At Options for Women, we believe in providing you with clear and comprehensive information to ensure your comfort and peace of mind throughout the process. In this section, we’ll walk you through what to expect at every stage, from your initial appointment to aftercare, so you can make your choices with confidence and feel supported every step of the way.

When you arrive at our clinic, we’ll ask you to complete a patient record. To save time, you can fill out this form in the privacy of your home and bring it to your appointment.

We will perform basic lab work to determine your blood type, including the Rh factor.

You will meet with our doctor, who will perform an ultrasound exam to determine the length of your pregnancy. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the abortion pill procedure. Our doctor will spend as much time as needed to address your concerns.

A dedicated counselor will speak with you privately to explain the procedure, what to expect after you leave our clinic, and discuss future birth control options. This counseling is conducted on an individual basis, ensuring you have the freedom to discuss any concerns or issues related to the abortion.

You will take the abortion pill as directed by the physician.

Within a few hours of taking the medication, you may experience strong cramps and bleeding, similar to a heavy period. Pain relief methods, such as medication or a heating pad, can help alleviate cramps. You may also encounter symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, chills, or fatigue. These symptoms are typically short-lived and subside on their own.

Options for Women will provide you with detailed instructions for your aftercare. If you have any questions or concerns during your recovery, please don’t hesitate to call the number provided by our center.

It’s essential to return to our facility for a follow-up appointment to ensure the abortion is complete. During this visit, you will undergo a pelvic examination, a pregnancy test, or an ultrasound. In rare cases where the abortion is incomplete, you may need an additional dose of medication or a follow-up visit in a week or two. If the pregnancy is still progressing, a surgical abortion may be recommended.
